Reimagine the Lakes

The University Lakes Project is being implemented by University Lakes LLC, which was established by the LSU Real Estate and Facilities Foundation, an affiliate of the LSU Foundation.

Exciting changes are coming
to the University Lakes!
Together, University Lakes LLC, LSU, the City of Baton Rouge and Parish of East Baton Rouge, the State, BREC, and the Baton Rouge Area Foundation are working to make the Lakes a more safe, beautiful, and welcoming place for people and nature. The project will involve ecological restoration, reducing flood risk to adjoining and downstream properties (did you know that the lakes are getting more and more shallow every year?), and the introduction of new amenities and activity locations. Additionally, we will be working hard to make walking, biking, and driving around the lakes safer and more comfortable for all users!
This is the first step to realize the long-term vision that was laid out in the 2016 master plan. Starting this spring 2021, the project team is focused on implementing the ideas that are most important to the community. Landscape architecture firm Sasaki is leading the effort in collaboration with Stantec and under the guidance of the partnership of Brailsford & Dunlavey and CSRS. While this project will take a few years to complete, the first phase is poised to show great improvements to the health of the lake system and functionality of this key recreational asset for you, the Baton Rouge community.
About the Project
The "University Lakes" consist of six bodies of water linking LSU to Baton Rouge neighborhoods. Four lakes - University, Campus, College, and Crest - are owned by LSU; City Park and Erie Lakes are owned by the City of Baton Rouge and Parish of East Baton Rouge. University and City Park Lakes, being the largest, offer the most public access and amenities.
