Call for Art and Activation: Our Lakes Fest!

(Community Open House #2)

Arts Council of Greater Baton Rouge, together with the University Lakes LLC, LSU, the City of Baton Rouge and Parish of East Baton Rouge, the State, BREC, and the Baton Rouge Area Foundation, seeks artists, performers, and creative educators to design and present activities that respond to the ecological, entomological, and environmental elements of the University Lakes and bring attention and awareness to the connection of community members and tourists to the diverse typography, botanical content, and biological habitat that makes the area unique.

This event will be held Sunday, August 8, 2021, from 12-6 p.m. at designated sites around the University Lakes.

A $250 stipend is available to the selected artist/presenter, who is required to purchase and supply all materials and be present for the duration of the program.

The goals of this event are:

  • To engage all ages and all types of learners with the lakes in creative ways

  • To inspire participants to respond, reflect and reconsider the lakes in new ways

  • To create dialogue around conservation, nature, and land

  • To present unique activities, performances, and installations that can be participatory, viewed, listened to, or experienced

  • To create an event that inspires and connects our community

We're looking for ideas that will invite people to engage with the lakes: this could be a floating sculpture, an interactive installation, a painting activity for kids... let your imagination flow!

- THIS CALL FOR ART AND ACTIVATION is open through July 5. -
