BATON ROUGE, LA – An open house to update the public on the status of the University Lakes Project will be held Tuesday, June 9, from 5:30 to 7 p.m. at the LSU Foundation, 3796 Nicholson Drive, Baton Rouge, LA 70802.
Attendees are invited to speak directly with members of the project team, who will be on hand to answer questions, share recent milestones, and provide insight into the next steps.
“We have made significant strides in reshaping the landscape, increasing depths, and improving water flow throughout the lakes system,” said Mark Goodson, principal and resilience practice lead of CSRS. “We know the community is eager to see the final results, and this is an opportunity to share where we are, answer questions, and detail what's ahead.”
The University Lakes Project is reimagining the existing lakes system near LSU as a sustainable ecological jewel that improves water quality, reduces flood risk, and offers flourishing habitats for both aquatic and land-based animals. It aims to elevate the area into a thriving recreational amenity, providing safe and comfortable routes for walkers, runners, and cyclists, as well as enhanced spaces for gathering and enjoying the outdoors.
The coalition formed to restore the lakes includes the State of Louisiana, the City of Baton Rouge and Parish of East Baton Rouge, BREC, LSU, and the Baton Rouge Area Foundation. The University Lakes Project is being implemented by University Lakes, LLC, which was established by the LSU Real Estate and Facilities Foundation, an affiliate of the LSU Foundation.
